Dried Produce from Around Peru

Dried produce from around Peru

Today’s #FriFotos theme is #BOUNTIFUL, so I have decided to share a photo from an amazing cooking class that I took in Cuzco.  I did not know this before my trip, but Peru is a top foodie destination, and I ate some of the best food of my life during my three weeks in the country.  Thus, when I had a chance to take a cooking class, I went for it.

During the class, we tasted examples of Peruvian cuisine; prepared our own pisco cocktails; cooked causa (a national dish made with potatoes and chicken) and alpaca saltada (a type of stir-fry using alpaca meat instead of the typical beef); and, sat down as a group to feast on what we had prepared.

First, though, we learned about the history of Peruvian food, and this stockroom featuring dried produce from all around Peru was our classroom.  It was incredible to hear about, see, touch, smell, and (most of all) taste the dizzying array of diverse food products in Peru!

Photo of the Week: Zagora, Morocco

Recently forged silver curios

In honor of today’s #FriFotos, here are some recently forged silver STARS that I saw in a large curio shop in Zagora, Morocco.

This was one of my favorite days of that trip because, after demonstrating how they forge the silver, the shop owners gave our group rein to explore.

I felt like Indiana Jones in the movies that I had watched as a kid–I bustled around the shop’s multiple levels, inside and outside, discovering myriad treasures: one-of-a-kind jewelry, peculiar trinkets, dusty lamps, aging manuscripts, even unlocked treasure chests!  It was wonderful, in the truest sense of the word.

Sometimes, the best part of travel is getting to approach the world with childlike wonder!

Photo of the Week: Cabo da Roca, Portugal

Sunset at Cabo da Roca

To start the weekend, here is a lovely sunset photo that I took at Cabo da Roca, Portugal, the westernmost point in mainland Europe.  Here’s to using the next few days to recharge for the upcoming week!

Photo of the Week: Douro Valley, Portugal

Overlooking the Douro Valley

I’m not going to lie–I feel just a tad bit envious of all of the travel bloggers who are getting to meet each other and learn more about the industry at TBU Porto!  To console myself, I’ve been looking at my pictures from Portugal.  Here is one of my favorites from the Douro Valley winemaking region, just outside of Porto.  To everyone at TBU Porto, please live it up and drink lots of port on my behalf!

Photo of the Week: Pride Rock, Serengeti, Tanzania

“Pride Rock” in the Serengeti

This week’s #FriFotos theme on Twitter is “Clouds”, so I have decided to contribute yet another of my favorite photos from my trip to Tanzania.  This was a beautiful day in the Serengeti, surrounded by zebras and other wildlife, and, as you can see, breathtaking scenery.  I can’t wait to go on safari again!

Photo of the Week: Tanzania

Maasai boys in Tanzania

This week’s #FriFotos theme on Twitter is “Faces”, so I have decided to contribute one of my favorite photos from my trip to Tanzania.  The face point is part of a Maasai ritual that marks the boys’ passage into adolescence.  I was lucky enough to capture this photo while on the road between game drive sites.  The image was so striking that I took several shots and had a hard time choosing just one–fortunately for you, I finally did!

If you have a great picture of “Faces” (however you interpret that) from your travels, please join in the Twitter fun with the #FriFotos hashtag–see you there!

Photo of the Week: Cape of Good Hope, South Africa

View of the Cape of Good Hope from Cape Point

The Twittersphere has been blowing up about Cape Town most recently, so I have decided to throw myself into the mix by sharing one of my favorite pictures from my trip to South Africa.  About 30 miles from Cape Town, in Table Mountain National Park, lie Cape Point and the Cape of Good Hope, the latter of which is the southwesternmost point in Africa.  While many people visiting the area assume that one of these capes is the southernmost point in Africa, that title actually goes to Cape Agulhas.  Nevertheless, a visit to Cape Point and the Cape of Good Hope are still worth it due to the absolute beauty of the surroundings.
